Tips and Hints on Upgrading Your Notebook PC
Having some knowledge of notebook repair sometimes means the difference between replacement or performing simple upgrades and repairs to your existing PC. Perhaps your notebook PC simply needs an upgrade to the hard disk drive and memory, or some minor repair.
Before you consider buying a new notebook PC, let’s take a look at a few tips and hints regarding computer upgrades. Many repairs are minor and considered part of routine maintenance and upgrades for better PC performance are relatively simple to accomplish. Many times your notebook PC can continue to function beyond its lifespan with a few simple upgrades.
Some of the main components in your notebook PC that are capable of receiving upgrades are the memory, hard drive, CD or DVD drive, and expansion slots. Nowadays it is extremely feasible to add 500GB of memory and more by simply adding an external hard drive to your notebook PC with a simple insertion into the USB port.
If your notebook PC is beginning to run sluggishly, it is probably time to expand the memory storage. This is quite easy to do and the costs will very depending upon the amount of storage you are installing. Often the upgrade is performed by accessing the component through the bottom side of the notebook. When you purchase more memory you will need to know the type of memory that is required for your particular system.
Difficulty with installing programs or saving files on your computer means that you are out of storage space on your internal hard drive. While it is possible to replace this component, you need to keep in mind that it will mean saving all of your files to an alternate source and reinstalling all of your programs from your old hard drive. If you have the disks for installation, this should not propose a problem.
For some notebook PCs, it is possible to replace the CD/DVD drive by [purchasing upgrade units from the manufacturer. If your notebook PC does not have this option, it is no problem to purchase an external media drive that simply plugs into the USB port.
It is also possible to upgrade the expansion slot in your notebook PC to increase the graphic, networking, and audio capabilities. If you have an older notebook PC, chances are that it does not have wireless capability, so you will want to upgrade with a PC card to enable your access to WiFi connections.
When choosing to upgrade your notebook PC, keep in mind that upgrading may mean decreasing the portability if it is necessary to go with external upgrades instead of internal upgrades. If you need to function in the mobile capacity, this means you will be carrying around a lot more paraphernalia in your notebook PC case.
